The driver accused of running over a 27-year-old cyclist in Paris was indicted for murder this Friday, October 18. Tuesday, at 5:45 p.m., this motorist drove over a cyclist in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.
An investigation opened for murder
According to initial testimonies and video surveillance, “the driver of the vehicle was going up the cycle path for 200 meters and would have run over the foot of the cyclist who was on his left”according to the prosecution. The young man “had knocked on the hood to alert the driver, who initially backed away, freeing his foot”continues the public prosecutor. The driver then turned his wheels towards the pedestrian and engaged forward gear, says l’AFP.
The driver, aged 52, was arrested and taken into police custody. A murder investigation was entrusted to the 1st district of the judicial police. Police custody was lifted late Thursday afternoon and the driver was presented to a judge this Friday.

A tribute paid to the cyclist on Saturday throughout France
The victim was named Paul, according to the Paris en selle association which described him on “active member”. His death created a significant stir, and a tribute will take place in front of several town halls in France this Saturday, October 19 in the afternoon.
