An emotional Gwendolyn Rutten has shown herself to be very satisfied with the provisional – not all votes have been counted – excellent result of her list in Aarschot.
Everyone Aarschot, the cartel list of Open VLD – the party of mayor Gwendolyn Rutten – and socialists, achieved 40.6 percent according to first, unofficial results based on one polling station. This makes the party of the former Flemish Minister of the Interior by far the largest in the Flemish Brabant city.
“It was extremely exciting,” says a very satisfied Rutten VTM. “I’ve had almost the whole of Flanders come over me. I think some people were hoping that I would get a pandering, but that didn’t happen. I am very happy that the results are in. Who would have thought that I could become mayor here? The inhabitants of Aarschot. I really lost a thousand kilos, it was a very difficult campaign. At the beginning of August I had so much happen to me. But I made a statement about the city I love and apparently that city loves me back.”
CD&V comes in second (20.7 percent), which is slightly larger than N-VA (19.7 percent). Vlaams Belang (8.4 percent), Groen (7.9 percent) and PVDA (2.7 percent) follow at a considerable distance.
