Iranian Parliament Speaker visits Lebanon

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, visited Beirut on Saturday, where he was received by the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, reports the Iranian news agency IRNA.

He then went to the site of an Israeli bombing which took place Thursday in Beirut, in the company of two Hezbollah deputies, again according to the IRNA agency, which a photographer from Agence- Press confirmed.

According to a source close to the pro-Iranian Shiite movement, the strike, which left twenty-two dead, targeted the head of Hezbollah’s security apparatus, Wafic Safa, whose fate is still unknown. Thursday’s bombings were the deadliest in the center of the capital since the start of the open war between Israel and Hezbollah.

“I came to Lebanon to convey the message of the people, of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and of Iranian officials, to declare that we stand, as always, alongside the nation, the government of Lebanon and the resistance”declared Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf before his departure.
