Who was Daniel Cordier, the man who gave his name to the Villeneuve-d’Ascq residence?

On June 21, 1940, then aged 19, he boarded a boat in to join the Free in Algeria. He will arrive in London to join the Free French Forces. Parachute in 1942 in France, he became the personal secretary of Jean Moulin and accompanied him to and to create the National Council of the Resistance. He was made a companion of the Liberation by General de Gaulle on November 20, 1944.

Note that between 1989 and 1993, he published a work in 3 volumes on Jean Moulin which is still a reference today.

The singer told our colleagues at RTL about his story with Hervé Vilard: “I was on the run, in front of Montparnasse station, there was the painter Dado, who worked for Daniel. He gave me a sandwich and told me to come to an opening to ‘get a kick out of it’. I ate all the petit fours. And Daniel was there, he asked: but who is this boy? »

Hervé Vilard was then 15 years old. He explains to her that he escaped from the orphanage. “He told me to go back and he would get me out of there, and he did.”

“The son that I have become has the deep conviction that you will be able to prove yourself worthy of this name affixed to the pediment of your residence” whispered the singer on the day of the inauguration.

225 student accommodations

Lionel Lérissel, president of Logifac, explains why he chose the name Daniel Cordier for this place: “This will allow this great man and the message of his commitment to be known by appearing on the surface, on a building in which students will pass for several generations.

The residence located at 231 rue de Lille offers 225 studio apartments, with areas of 18 to 24 m². Enough to rejoice the mayor of the city, Gérard Caudron: “At the end of this mandate, I will have, among my satisfactions in university matters, close to 10,000 rooms in residences.
