There are more and more Flemish residents in the commune of Orp-Jauche, in Walloon Brabant. This does not pose a problem to Hughes Ghenne, who believes that they are all “extraordinary and sometimes even more than the Walloons”. He was questioned during the “48 hours of mayors”.

Like many Walloon municipalities, Orp-Jauche (Walloon Brabant) is “heavily impacted by land pressure“, explains his mayor Hughes Ghenne (PS). “There are more or less 300 new residents who come to settle per year and around a hundred people who come from Flanders“, he continues.

This is what justifies, according to Hughes Ghenne, the choice of Ambras to symbolize his commune. This beer is a project of a resident of Orp-Jauch, but originally from Hoegaarden. “It’s a play on words“, specifies the mayor. Indeed, “ambras” means annoyance in Flemish but which resembles “embrace” in French. “This is really what connects the two communities“, appreciates Hughes Ghenne.

All the Flemings who come to live with us are extraordinary and sometimes even more so than the Walloons.“, he assures Caroline Fontenoy.
