The custody cells at Marseille police stations were very full during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Ninety people have been arrested over the last 24 hours, marked by the conduct of ten operations in ten Marseille cities by CRS companies, when the average is more around 5 or six raids per day.
An intensification of “shelling” – a strategy which consists of massively investing in a city known for drug trafficking – which sounds “clearly like a response from the State”, observes a police source. A response to the events of last weekend which saw the death of a fifteen-year-old boy and the murder of a VTC driver by a 14-year-old boy.
According to accounts kept by the police headquarters, 2,500 traffickers have been arrested in the department since the start of the year, for 9 tonnes of cannabis and nearly 11 million euros seized. Also, the police are maintaining pressure on the Marseille drug trafficking networks, also increasing “ubershit” or “ubercoke” checks, with 69 delivery men arrested since January.
