In , an architect-designed villa with a 1970s feel and its swimming pool

“We rented an apartment above an empty plot of land, on which we fell in loveexplains Margaux Fritz. We bought this plot and I called on an architect to find out all the town planning rules before designing the house. Then, I thought about it, rethought it… the project lasted five years. » The genesis of Villa Bambi, named after the children’s grandmother, was made in the desire to abolish the boundaries between the interior and exterior thanks to large bay windows measuring 4×3 meters, and live to the rhythm of the sun. “I like having this relationship with the outside world, particularly in Marseille”testifies Margaux Fritz, who designed the villa entirely glazed on the front and completely blind at the back. “In the summer, we leave everything open and it’s as if we were living under a courtyard. It’s quite great, with the swimming pool very close to the house and the garden. »

Hosted by “the old Californian villas, all open with large bay windows, where inside and outside merge”the interior designer drew his inspiration from the Case Study Houses post-war, the aim of which was to build quickly and efficiently to house the growing population in the United States. “I spend my time looking at images of all these architects”confides Margaux Fritz, including Richard Koenig, Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames.

This Californian inspiration is combined with a Mediterranean touch dear to the interior designer, who was keen to preserve local materials, such as swimming pool tiles, a Greek stone designed less than two hours from Marseille. “To have a boat side”the apartment also has numerous woodwork, such as the lacquered worktop “very shiny like you can find on some old boats”. The facade was, with this same aim, whitewashed. The windows, which occupy three quarters of it, have been decorated with colorful fabrics. “I wanted to reveal the facade in a different way when the curtains were closed. When they are open, the house is white and glazed with transparencies. When you close them, it completely changes its appearance. »
