A month of rain in a few hours
The depression Kirk will approach the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region this Wednesday. Very significant amounts of rain are expected, particularly in Deux-Sèvres and the far north of Vienne. These departments are already receiving significant amounts of rain this Tuesday. In Deux-Sèvres, cumulative rainfall over 24 hours could reach 60 to 80 mm, the equivalent of a month of rain in a few hours.
“It’s still not not common to have such quantities, indicates Emmanuel Moreau, meteorologist. We can see this kind of phenomenon more and more often with global warming: one more degree in the atmosphere means 7% more humidity.”
In Vienne, vigilance for heavy rain and flooding, currently at the yellow level, could be increasedindicates Météo France. In some areas, 24-hour rainfall totals are expected to reach 30 to 50 mm, with maximums of up to 70 mm.
