Two hunters who loaded a moose into a rowboat drowned in Clova

Two experienced hunters met a tragic end this weekend in Clova, in Mauricie, when the rowboat in which they had loaded a moose sank in a lake.

The small boat sank in the waters Friday evening while three hunters were on board with a moose that had just been killed, we learned The Journal. Only one man was able to swim back to shore.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called, around 4 a.m. the next morning, to go to the scene for two people who were still missing. The authorities began research, notably using divers.

The bodies of two men, aged 76 and 69, were finally located in the lake, in the Clova sector, early Saturday evening. Their death was noted in a hospital center, said SQ spokesperson Marc Tessier.

They would have had a chalet in this corner of Mauricie, where they would have spent most of their summer, according to our information. They were experienced hunters.

A coroner’s inquest is underway to shed light on these deaths.
