In 2011, Gareth Evans reveals himself to the general public with his film The Raidan Indonesian production in which a group of police officers who come to dismantle a drug network find themselves trapped in the building entirely in the pay of the local baron. With a tiny budget of a million dollars, The Raid was an indisputable success, collecting more than 9 million dollars at the box office, a score which it will double thanks to its DVD sales.

Carried by an Iko Uwais (The Night Comes for Us, Snake Eyes) at the very beginning of his career, The Raid made a lasting impression on fans of action cinema, launching the careers of Joe Taslim (Mortal Kombat, Warrior) et Yayan Ruhian (Star Wars VII, John Wick 3) internationally. With such success to his name, it was certain that Evans would work on producing a sequel to his action film which had created a surprise.

Sometimes two without three

3 years later, the director actually returned to the charge with The Raid 2, a longer, more ambitious film and 4 times more expensive. However, it is a new critical success for Gareth Evans whose film is widely praised by the press and the public, who praised the mastery of the director, the quality of his action scenes but also of the story which links them.

However, the result at the box office was much more mixed, with an estimated budget of 4.5 million dollars, The Raid 2 only grossed 6.5 million, with an additional 4 million brought in by the sale of DVDs and Blu-Rays : a certain success without being absolutely massive given the substantially inflated budget of this second opus, the work having brought in almost as much as the first despite its much higher cost. And regarding a third installment, Evans has previously expressed that he does not feel the need to continue the story, satisfied by the conclusion of the second part.
