The famous “golden owl” has been recovered. Does this name mean nothing to you? However, it was a huge treasure hunt launched in May 1993. After 31 years of waiting, the golden owl was found. This was announced by one of the two organizers of the adventure on the morning of October 3.
This time, it’s well and truly over. The trail of the golden owl was finally traced to the end, after 31 years of waiting. In doing so, the discovery of this famous “golden owl” puts an end to an exceptional adventure, which over time has become one of the most famous treasure hunts. And moreover, one of the oldest still open.
It was on a Discord show dedicated to gaming that the announcement was made, on the morning of October 3, by Michel Becker, one of the two organizers: “ We confirm that the Golden Owl countermark was unearthed last night, simultaneously with a solution being sent to the online verification system. »
At this point, it is unknown who found the Golden Owl. Michel Becker just added in his message “ that it is therefore useless to move to dig on the location that you assume to be that of the cache. As previously announced, we verify the validity of the proposed solution. »
On the trail of the golden owl
On the trail of the golden owl was a challenge imagined by Régis Hauser and Michel Becker. In May 1993, the two men decided to bury a small bronze owl and published a book containing eleven riddles to find it. The work, with a print run of 50,000 copies, constitutes the starting point of a craze which will attract tens of thousands of people.
It is even estimated that the treasure hunt has ended up directly or indirectly involving around 200,000 “owlers” – the nickname given to members of the community – since its launch. It must be said that beyond the challenge, there was quite a prize at stake: a voucher allowing you to obtain a real gold statuette, encrusted with diamonds.
The puzzles were considered very difficult, which explains the considerable time it took to find the golden owl. To help the owls, some clues have been given over the years. We can now expect that the solutions to the eleven puzzles will now be shared.
