The summer holidays are fast approaching, a period when millions of French people head to the beaches, mountains and other rest destinations. But to afford this luxury, many of them had to make certain sacrifices. This is precisely what a recent survey demonstrated.

In this study carried out among 1,100 people, Voyages E.Leclerc and the Observatoire des Nouvelles Consommations of the same brand, in partnership with the polling institute Ipsos, looked at the way in which the French organize themselves to be able to To go on holiday. For a large part of them, efforts were necessary.

According to this survey, 78% of people surveyed indicated that they had been forced to reduce their daily expenses to be able to go on vacation this year. For 84% of French people interviewed as part of this study, going on a trip is a real need. However, with inflation and the decline in purchasing power, this pleasure is becoming a luxury.

To afford it, many French people have had to review their spending habits. For 63% of those surveyed, shopping was impacted the most. For these French people, the choice was in particular to turn to mass distribution brands offering the best prices.

In second place, clothing, beauty products and other secondary expenses have been significantly reduced for 58% of French people surveyed. When it comes to outings and leisure activities, 54% of those questioned said they had drastically reduced the budget intended for these expenses.

Despite efforts, vacations are no longer the same as before

Efforts which ended up paying off for 37% of those questioned as part of this study. The latter claim, in fact, to have managed to free up a budget to go on vacation this summer. But for 36% of French people surveyed, the sacrifices were not enough. They indicated that despite their efforts, they are forced to reduce their travel budget.

In addition, the choice of vacation destinations has also been impacted. For 75% of those questioned, travel destinations are now closer to France. The length of stays has also been reduced. 73% of French people surveyed confirm that this is the case.

Finally, to the question “ Over the last 2 years, would you say that your purchasing power has had a significant impact on the number of trips you take? », 75% of those questioned answered yes, a sign that despite their efforts, going on vacation remains, in many cases, an inaccessible luxury.
