FPT unveils 3 revolutionary combustion engines fueled by hydrogen and natural gas

Belonging to Iveco Group, FPT Industrial is an Italian manufacturer of low-carbon powertrains designed specifically for the transport of passengers and goods. The brand was present at the IAA Transportation show which was held in Hanover, Germany, from September 17 to 22. It took advantage of the event to unveil its latest developments, including internal combustion engines which promise to be even more durable than previous models. Among them, the CURSOR 9 H2 is designed to power urban and regional heavy goods vehicles. Thanks to its power of 310 horsepower, this hydrogen-powered unit does not emit CO2. It is also suitable for city and intercity buses as well as construction machinery.

Less carbon emissions

The CURSOR 9 H2 is an 8.7-liter 6-cylinder engine capable of delivering 1,400 Nm of torque at 1,100 rpm. It uses a PFI (Port Fuel Injection) type injection system. In addition to this model, FPT Industrial has lifted the veil on the N67 Hythane. It is a dual-fuel engine designed for mid-size trucks and buses. Concretely, it uses a fuel made from a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas to optimize combustion. Its CO2 emission is 50% lower than that of a thermal engine powered solely by natural gas.

A multi-fuel engine

The N67 Hythane is a straight-six. Its displacement is 6.7 liters. It develops a power of 280 hp as well as a torque of 1,000 Nm. To complete its catalog, FPT Industrial has announced the XCURSOR 13. This is the brand’s first single-base multi-fuel engine. It is available in diesel, natural gas, hydrogen and biofuel versions. Designed for long-haul trucks and heavy-duty construction vehicles, this 12.9-liter in-line six-cylinder powertrain offers power of up to 600 hp with a maximum torque of 2850 Nm in its diesel version.

The F1C Diesel, a more classic model

The manufacturer also promises power of up to 720 hp for the XCURSOR 13 diesel. As for the hydrogen and natural gas versions, they develop a power of 520 hp, or 382 kW, and a maximum torque of 2,500 Nm. Note that FPT Industrial has also unveiled a block specially designed for light commercial vehicles : the F1C Diesel.
