A 28-year-old young woman remains in critical condition in hospital after being involved in a violent collision involving three vehicles, including a heavy goods vehicle, Friday afternoon in Saint-Rémi, in Montérégie.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m., on Route 221 – which also bears the name of Boulevard Saint-Rémi –, not far from the intersection of Boulevard Industriel.

According to authorities, two vehicles were following each other on this country road when the first slowed down in order to make a turn.
“The driver who was following then hit the vehicle in front of her, before being thrown into the oncoming lane, at the same time as a semi-trailer truck was approaching in the opposite direction,” indicated Sergeant Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The impact was extremely brutal.

The driver remained trapped on board the wreckage of her vehicle for many minutes. Local firefighters used extrication pliers to cut the car and free it from its unfortunate position.
The young woman, who was alone on board, was unconscious at the time.
She was rushed to hospital and doctors feared for her life.

The driver of the truck, as well as the driver of the first vehicle, were not injured.
A portion of Route 221 was completely closed to traffic for police investigation purposes.
