Originally, The three days of the Condor is a novel by James Grady, released in 1974. Director Sydney Pollack was inspired by it for his eponymous film released in 1975.

The three days of the Condor tells the story of a CIA agent, Joseph Turner (Robert Redford) who collects as much information as possible from spy books. One day, he returns to the office and discovers to his horror that all his colleagues have been shot. He flees and kidnaps Kathy Hale (Faye Dunaway), a woman with whom he takes refuge. The hero begins to suspect members of his agency of being behind the murders.

A political film
This is the first time that a Hollywood feature film has so explicitly shown the CIA in a bad light, with a movie star in the lead. It is a very political film, the filming of which took place at a tense moment in the history of the United States. Indeed, the team began filming three months after Nixon’s announcement of his departure from the White House following official investigations and revelations from the Washington Post in 1972. The questioning of institutions was at the heart of the debate national at that time.
A new collaboration with Robert Redford
Director Sydney Pollack has directed actor Robert Redford many times. Both worked on films Prohibited property (1966), Jeremiah Johnson (1972), Our best years, The Electric Rider (1979), Out of Africa (1985) and Havana (1990).
