After having met with dazzling success at the cinema last year, the franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s is already preparing its return to the big screen. With a budget of only $20 million, the Blumhouse studio managed to transform its adaptation of the cult video game into a hit at the box office with 297.2 million dollars, astonishing revenues considering that the film also debuted on the streaming platform Peacock at the same time. It was therefore not surprising to discover the announcement of a sequel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last April. Universal and Blumhouse then promised a more terrifying sequel, in line with the very DNA of the game. The first opus having chosen to focus on the very dense lore of the franchise, the second opus should therefore lean towards jumpscares.

Barely a month after these promises, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 already finds its theatrical release date. For now, Freddy Fazbear and his friends plan to invade American cinemas on December 5, 2025. This time, the film skips the Halloween period, which is very fruitful for productions of the genre. In France, it is not impossible that this sequel arrives in theaters a little late, like its predecessor. But following the success of the first opus, nothing is less certain. While waiting to learn more, here is what we already know about this upcoming feature film.

Prequel in sight?

If Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 decides to follow the order of the games, so this sequel should be a prequel. However, after the cliffhanger of the first film having left the spectators with the famous phrase of William Afton “I always come back“, everything seems possible. This new feature film could notably oscillate between present and past, in order to explore the reasons behind the possession of the animatronics, their link with William Afton and how Mike and Vanessa intend to remedy it. Adapting a franchise with such a vast and complex lore, it is not easy to make predictions.

Now that production appears to be well underway, official details should start trickling in. Blumhouse also announced release dates for other of its most anticipated projects. Following M3GANsoberly titled M3GAN 2.0 will now enter theaters on June 27, 2025, and will be followed by Black Phone 2 on October 17, 2025. Fans of horror productions will therefore have no problem finding what they are looking for next year.
