IDF Tries to Eliminate Nasrallah at Hezbollah Headquarters, Security Sources Say He Was There

Israel attempted to eliminate Hezbollah’s secretary general in Beirut: The IDF struck the organization’s central headquarters in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of the Lebanese capital this evening (Friday), and the official target was Hassan Nasrallah. In Israel, we are trying to understand if he was present there, and if so, what is his condition. The Iranian news agency “Tasnim” and the Arabic-language “Sky News” channel reported that Hezbollah sources claim that Nasrallah is in a safe place.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was holding a press briefing after his speech at the UN at the time of the attack, left the scene in a hurry. Israel informed the United States of the attack shortly before it was carried out.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the headquarters was located beneath residential buildings in the Hezbollah stronghold. In Lebanon, around 10 explosions were reported, and according to various reports, at least six buildings were destroyed in the attack. Images from the site show extensive damage at the scene. A Lebanese news agency reported that the strikes created a ring of fire from the Bourj el-Barajneh camp to Haret Hreik.

According to a Lebanese security source, this is Israel’s most massive strike on the southern neighborhoods of the Lebanese capital since the start of the war. She confirmed to the “Al Arabiya” channel that this is an area where senior Hezbollah officials usually stay.

In the past, Iranian officials used to stay alongside senior Hezbollah officials during operations in which it participated. In the summer of 2006, for example, Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani accompanied Hassan Nasrallah and Imad Mughniyeh during the Second Lebanon War. In Israel, they are checking whether there were Iranian elements among the victims of today’s attack.
