If You enjoys continued success with each new season, thanks in particular to the charisma of Penn Badgley, who makes his comeback here after his debut in Gossip Girl. A sex appeal which sometimes disturbs the purpose of the series, provoking a paradoxical fascination on the part of fans for this Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde of love.

Dirty John on Netflix, when the ideal marriage turns into a nightmare

From the documentary Making a Murderer to the cuddly series Only Murders in the Buildingthe intrigues of true crime have never stopped inspiring the small screen in recent years. Dirty John, started in 2018, is no exception to the rule. The first episodes of this anthology, of which each season is therefore independent, are thus inspired by an American podcast centered on John Meehan. This real crook scammed businesswoman Debra Newell, promising her wonders, before leading her into a spiral of manipulation.

The Watcher on Netflix, when the perfect house turns into a nightmare

Just one month after unveiling the highly controversial Dahmerprolific creator Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) returned to the forefront of Netflix in October 2022 with another series, always adapted from real events: The Watcher.

This time, the addictive plot of the 7 episodes has a single address: 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey. This is where a married couple, thinking they have finally moved into a dream house, become the obsession of a stalker who calls himself the “Watchman” (Or “The Watcher”in VO, therefore).

Much more horrifying than My Little Reindeerthis thriller addresses similar themes, with a situation of stalking which takes on increasingly dramatic proportions. The two series also share a common inspiration: real life.

The Watcher thus depicts the story of the Broaddus family, which was actually the target of threatening letters for several months. As is often the case, the series takes many scripted liberties with the original news item, to better chill our blood, while waiting for the second season, already ordered by Netflix.
