The causes of the divorce of Crown Prince Leka specified in the official document
Crown Prince Leka of Albania, 42, grandson of King Zog I and Queen Geraldine, announced his separation at the beginning of the year. In 2016, the head of the Albanian royal family married Elia Zaharia, an actress who had shared his life for many years. They had also announced their engagement in 2010.
The couple have a child, Princess Géraldine, born on October 22, 2020. The little princess bears the first name of her ancestor, the Queen of the Albanians. Since the announcement of the separation of Leka and Elia, relations have become strained between the two ex-spouses, hounded by the tabloid press in Albania. Prince Leka is highly publicized in his country and Elia is also in the spotlight, as an actress. She is also the daughter of a well-known actress in Albania.

A few weeks ago, a private video filming a violent altercation between Leka and Elia, in which Elia’s father was also involved, was revealed in the press, causing a lot of damage to the image of both parties. The Albanian press announced on May 8 that the divorce was finally pronounced on April 25, 2024 by the Tirana civil court. The divorce document indicates in particular that Elia will abandon the surname of Zogu – that worn by members of the royal family – and return to his birth name, Zaharia. The official causes of divorce are: “constant arguments, lack of communication and breakdown of cohabitation”.
The divorce document signed by the Tirana civil court indicates that the ex-spouses agree to respect a separation agreement drawn up in January. This decision makes it possible to maintain the confidentiality of the various conditions specified in the previously agreed document. This confidential document was, however, published in the press, in which we learned that for the needs of young Geraldine, the prince agreed that his daughter would live five days a week with her mother. An apartment, currently under construction, will be made available by the prince for his ex-wife and their daughter. The prince will also pay monthly alimony and both parties undertake to do everything possible for the well-being and education of their daughter.
