CNT: the agreement for the construction of a 1,800 MW liquefied gas plant unanimously adopted

Guinea is currently going through an energy crisis characterized by a lack of power throughout the country. To reverse this trend and allow mining companies to process raw materials on site, the CNT adopted an agreement this Thursday, April 25, 2024, for the installation of a 1,800 MW liquefied gas plant.

The Minister of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons affirms that a big step has just been taken in the development of the energy sector.

“You will agree with me, today our country is facing an energy crisis that does not speak its name. The government, under the leadership of the President of the Republic and partners, we are working together to find solutions. And this morning, we ratified an agreement which will provide our country with 1800 MW for a need of 2000 MW which is requested to transform mining resources. That says a lot about the joy that drives us. We have just signed the project for the largest mining deposit, Simandou. Guinea, after sixty-some years of independence, today has the opportunity to say that tomorrow, in a few years, we will also be able to transform the mineral resources on site. And this will considerably replenish the state coffers. And the other political aspect that must be recognized, in this period of transition, knowing that bilateral partners like the United States are supporting us further denotes the policy pursued by the government, the win-win partnership, we are delighted with that . This simply means that international partners, friendly and brotherly countries still have confidence in Guinea, have confidence in this government to continue to provide solutions to our country. With this climate change, this liquefied gas project will diversify energy sources and allow several industries and SMEs to develop in the Boké region where this project will long contribute to the development of this country with tons of bauxite which were exported, and today with the goodwill of the president, but also of the West Africa group Elios which is a solid partner which is already recognized in this type of activity is supporting Guinea in its energy transition. We can only rejoice, and tell the partners that we are willing to implement the content of the document, but also reassure the populations that the honorable advisors have actually worked and taken into account the interest of Guinea, the interest of this generation, but also of future generations so that together we can see an emerging Guinea,” said Aboubacar Camara.
