A terrible accident occurred on Friday May 3 at the National Circus Arts Center (Cnac), in Châlons-en-Champagne, with the death of a student.

“It is with infinite sadness that we announce the death of Titouan Maire, student in 3e year at the CNAC. Titouan fell while preparing his escapes, the end-of-course exercise at the CNAC, and he succumbed to his injuries yesterday (Saturday) evening.communicated in a post on Facebook this Sunday Peggy Donck, director and Frédéric Durnerin, president of Cnac.

Originally from Valenciennes, the 23-year-old young man had joined the circus option at Pierre-Bayen high school and had learned straps and acrobatics, before specializing in acrobatics. After high school, Titouan Maire studied at the National School of Circus Arts in Rosny-sous-Bois (93). He was an acrobat in the 36e promotion of the CNAC. The student, with others, ensured the development of the circus section of the L’Aiglonne association, in Sainte-Ménehould, throughout the year and for three years. He devoted his Saturdays to it. And also sometimes went there for school holidays such as during the first week of winter holidays in February 2024.

An investigation into the causes of death has been opened by the Châlons-en-Champagne public prosecutor’s office.
