The program aims to be exhaustive with 48 proposals. But its serious tone is one-sided. Monday May 6, Valérie Hayer’s campaign team presented its program for the European elections on June 9. In front of around ten of his running mates, the head of the presidential majority list was in tune with the speech given at the Sorbonne by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on April 25. “We must be clear today about the fact that our Europe is mortal, it can die,” the head of state declared in particular. Ten days later, here is its programmatic variation “so that Europe does not die”, according to Valérie Hayer.

Flagship proposal from the Macron camp: the creation of a support fund for European defense industries, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and a hypothetical military disengagement of the United States in the event of Donald’s victory Trump, during the presidential election next November.

The ambition is to raise 100 billion euros through a loan, via the European Investment Bank. A “European preference” will be enshrined in Community law so that arms orders are placed with continental manufacturers. The objective is to achieve “strategic autonomy” Who “allows us to deter aggressors from attacking the European Union”, summarized the MEP (Horizons) and spokesperson for the campaign, Nathalie Loiseau, also referent on defense issues. Ultimately, the military budget of each State must be increased to 2% of its gross domestic product by 2025 and to 3% by 2030.

But the threat weighing on the European Union (EU) is not only military. It is also economical, with “partners who only know the balance of power” And “powers that want to divide and fragment us”, supported outgoing MEP (MoDem) Marie-Pierre Vedrenne, campaign spokesperson and specialist in free trade agreements. To remedy this, in the European Parliament, the Renew group – in which the elected representatives of the majority are brought together – proposes to set up “a European trade shield”, whose armed arm would be a “Health Frontex” – in reference to the EU border and coast guard agency –, responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental and health “mirror clauses” by the commercial partners of the Twenty-Seven.
