Alderweireld gives victory to Antwerp at the end of the suspense

At the end of an exciting football match, Antwerp won in Westerlo at the very end of the match thanks to Alderweireld.

The start of the match was spectacular. The Great Old seemed to take the lead after a few moments but Janssen’s goal was disallowed for offside after a long VAR check. On the half-hour mark, Devine was brought down by goalkeeper Lammens. After another long VAR check, Westerlo was awarded a deserved penalty. Frigan rushed forward but the Antwerp goalkeeper corrected his mistake and saved the Croatian’s weak shot.

In the end, Antwerp took the lead. A corner kick fell perfectly on Alderweireld’s head, which made it 0-1 in the net. Westerlo reacted and Frigan made up for his missed penalty by cleverly scoring the 1-1 as half-time approached. A fair score at the halfway point.

After the break, this attractive match lost none of its flavour. A header from Vuskovic narrowly missed the target. On the hour mark, Westerlo was awarded another penalty, this time after an unfortunate handball from Corbanie. The VAR intervened again and referee Lambrechts reviewed his decision due to offside.

Chery thought they had made it 1-2 but Kerk was clearly offside on the trajectory of his shot. As things looked set to be a draw, Alderweireld offered the winning goal in stoppage time with a beautiful header.

How the match unfolded : 0-1 (41′) Alderweireld, 1-1 (45′) Frigan, 1-2 (90+5′) Alderweireld

Frigan (Westerlo) missed a penalty (37′).
