Murder of a teenager in Taouyah (Conakry): Fodé Oussou protests and calls on the authorities

The shooting death of a teenager in Taouyah, in the commune of Ratoma, following an anti-load shedding demonstration, has sparked indignation. This is the case for Dr Fodé Oussou Fofana, vice-president of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), who vigorously criticizes the behavior of the security forces during the recent demonstrations. He demands justice and a firm response from the authorities. He expressed this position on the occasion of the weekly general assembly, held this Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the party’s headquarters, Guineematin.com noted on site through one of its reporters.

“We listened to the Prime Minister tell the police authorities, you have no right, we are going to carry out investigations. We must identify the culprits. Control your teams. But here, I completely agree with the Prime Minister. Because we do not have the right in demonstrations to allow people with weapons. The Guinean must not die in a demonstration. When you want to supervise the demonstration, you go with conventional weapons. There are protests in every country in the world. Have you seen a country where you have the right to bring a gun to a demonstration? If there are deaths, then you say you don’t know. Those who must come to the demonstrations must be controlled, we must be able to identify them. We need to know who is who. I saw Taouyah’s wife, a customs officer whose child was killed, shot, I saw her head, the skull was emptied of the contents of the head under the effect of the bullet. This is unsustainable. I saw this woman who lost her child. When you want to come to the protests, damn it, leave your guns, leave the bullets there. Take conventional weapons. You have the right to throw hot water, you have the right to shoot tear gas, you have the right to take batons. But, you do not have the right to take unconventional weapons, as if you were at war, as if they were animals, as if they were not your children, your brothers. This has to stop. Guinea is not the only country in the world. Tell me a single country in Africa where there are demonstrations where you can take (unconventional) weapons and shoot human beings as if they were animals. That is unacceptable. It has to stop, what happened in Taouya, those who are responsible for this, those who killed in Taouya, we have to identify them. We must sanction them. The Minister of Security must inform the national police director that we are Guineans and not animals and that when there are demonstrations, we do not take weapons against Guinean citizens. The Prime Minister is committed, I believe he will follow through. For that, he can count on our support. We only need to kill someone during a demonstration,” said Dr. Fodé Oussou Fofana.
