Three years ago, on September 14, 2021, a few days after his release from psychiatry, a thirty-year-old stabbed his mother-in-law to death in a house in Colombelles (Calvados). The man, now 40 years old, admitted the facts. He was diagnosed as “schizoaffective” by a college of psychiatric experts. He has chronic psychotic disorders, aggravated by drug use.
“Discernment abolished”
“His mental state abolished his discernment at the time of the events. He is a dangerous man from a criminological point of view. The care injunction is essential to ensure that treatment is maintained.”, had developed one of them on September 10, 2024, during a hearing at the investigating chamber of the Caen Court of Appeal. The attorney general had requested that “declare this man criminally irresponsible given his mental disorder.”
After deliberating, the court followed his requisitions on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, and ordered his admission to psychiatric care. The forty-year-old, who had been in pretrial detention since 2021, is also prohibited from possessing a weapon, from contacting the victim’s relatives and from appearing in Calvados for twenty years.
