The merger mentioned for the first time in municipal council
Friday September 27, 2024, in the evening, the two municipalities of Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay and of May-sur-Orne organized at the same time their municipal council to raise the subject for the first time in public and vote for the merger of the two municipalities on January 1st?
“Have a vision at 15-20 years old”
In May-sur-Orne, Mayor Jean-Luc Mottais explained at length the choice of this merger.
We need to have a 15-20 year vision, think locally and stop parochial wars. We were already talking about this rapprochement 25 years ago, it is not new. It’s possible because we listen to each other, we understand each other and we respect each other.
Tense and even heated exchanges in May-sur-Orne
The economic gain from the merger was widely highlighted by the majority. Of the tense and even heated exchanges took place during the May-sur-Orne municipal council with the opposition and even some members of the majority. Particularly on thelack of communication with residents before the merger andlack of referendum.
A new name chosen
The merger of municipalities of Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay and May-sur-Orne was finally recorded around 7:40 p.m., following the vote in the two municipalities. In Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay, the municipal council validated it with three abstentions.
