The programming has caused controversy. But Utopia Borderouge assures that the screening will take place, and that it is a constraint linked to the director’s schedule.

Aymeric Caron’s film, “Gaza after October 7”, will ultimately not be scheduled at the Utopia Borderouge on September 27. This is what the management of the cinema announced in a press release on Tuesday, regarding this shocking film produced from images sent from the Palestinian enclave.

“The schedule of MP Aymeric Caron ultimately does not allow him to come to Toulouse on September 27 […] However, by the very nature of the film, this screening only makes sense if it is accompanied by an exchange with the person who designed the editing,” explains Utopia. The cinema has decided to “postpone the screening as quickly as possible” for this film, which is being shown in partnership with Ciné-Palestine Toulouse , les Amis du Monde Diplomatique and Solidarité Palestine Toulouse.

The programming caused controversy

A Toulouse film buff, revolted by the programming of “Gaza, after October 7” at the Utopia Borderouge, had denounced in La Dépêche du Midi the lack of counterpoint of the programmer: “Utopia is dishonest with this incriminating film”; “showing only these images without talking about the origins of the conflict, all presented by an LFI deputy accused of anti-Semitism, that only creates hatred” affirmed Jean, who alerted the communities, the prefecture and the public prosecutor.

A pro-Palestinian public meeting instead

“The screening will take place, the date will be communicated as soon as we have set it with Aymeric Caron’s team” explains Utopia. Instead, on September 27, activists from Solidarité Palestine Toulouse will be welcomed “for a public meeting with free admission” and “we will discuss the situation in Gaza and more generally in Palestine, as well as the recent advances in the BDS (Boycott Divestment Sanction) campaign” indicates the cinema’s management.
