The San Antonio Spurs drafted Stephon Castle with the 4th pick of the Draft last night. An interesting choice that Victor Wembanyama commented from Insep, where the French team is gathered for the start of its preparation for the Olympic Games.

“I’m very happy with this choice. Stephon is capable of helping us starting next year. He is one of the most NBA ready players in this Draft. I’m very happy with this pick, besides that he is also a good person.”

It didn’t take long for Castle to integrate into UConn’s already successful NCAA team. As a freshman, the 19-year-old guard actively contributed to the Huskies’ back-to-back, without needing to be a major option offensively. This is exactly what awaits him in San Antonio, where the hierarchy is also well established and where he will be asked to be a facilitator and adjutant, in defense as in attack, of Victor Wembanyama. Good news, that’s exactly what he intends to do.

“With my defense and Wemby’s rim protection, I think we can have a defensive one-two punch and it’s going to be very special. I think it will go well offensively too. With my playmaking, his playmaking, my versatility to make cuts and set screens for him, all those little things, our connection will be really strong”Castle explained to the media after his Draft.
