The Black Lions of Lunel welcome the best teams from the south

This Sunday at the Dassargues stadium, the Lunel Black Lions are organizing their traditional end-of-year Flag tournament. We will therefore not see classic American football with heavy equipment, but rather a game where the tackle gives way to the removal of a strip attached to the opponent’s hip. And what is far from being insignificant, the teams are mixed.

In memory of a former coach Cédric Foguet, who gave his name to the tournament, the meeting has now become a must-see at the end of the season in the south of France. No less than 17 teams have registered, some since last year. When, at the beginning of June, the tournament was almost canceled, they expressed their disappointment and were even insistent. “It happened when the travellers settled in the stadium. We were literally harassed to maintain the tournament. We worked with the town halls of Vauvert and Lunel to find a fallback solution. In the end, everything returned to normal and the Lunel tournament will take place, and in Lunel,” announces Bastien Murillo, a relieved president.

A festive and friendly competition

Thus, we will see on the field the Renegades of Istres, the Hurricanes of Albi and those of Montpellier, The Falcons of Lyon, the Canonniers of Toulon, but also the Chargers of Marseille, the South fighters of Avignon, the Sasquatchs of Gap, the Jaguars de Martigues and many others with equally exotic names.

All play at least at regional level or even higher, some players are part of the French team. The Jaguars are vice-champions of France 2nd division, and the Hurricanes vice-champions in 1st division. Suffice it to say that the exchanges will be high-level and the show will be there.

However, this end-of-season event is also intended to be friendly and festive. note that Cédric Foguet’s family will be present to support the protagonists on the pitch and pay tribute to the memory of the coach.
