Real takes the lead, doubled for Mbappé

Clearly dominating against Las Palmas on Sunday (4-1), Real Madrid returned to the throne of La Liga. Mbappé was in all the good moves.

Real were not going to let such an opportunity slip away. The day after Atlético de Madrid's setback on the Leganés field (1-0), Carlo Ancelotti's squad took back the reins of La Liga from the Colchoneros on Sunday, after a one-sided encounter against the fourteenth of the championship. Without Vinicius, suspended, without Camavinga or Tchouaméni (injured), but with an attacking quartet composed of Diaz, Bellingham, Rodrygo and Mbappé, the Casa Blanca club was very often dangerous at the Santiago-Bernabéu. And this despite a failed start.

After 25 seconds of play, Real were already behind, Silva taking a perfect cross from Sandro at point blank range, under the eyes of a stunned Rüdiger (0-1, 1st). But this great start was a deception since Las Palmas actually spent most of its time defending, even suffering, against the incessant waves of the Merengue. A decisive passer, the ex-Barcelona player Sandro was the first to break, caught by Rodrygo's vivacity and offering a penalty to Mbappé. A penalty, his fourth in eleven goals, transformed without problem by the former Parisian (1-1, sp, 18th).

Rodrygo, the other dynamiter

Very strong this weekend, and more generally at the start of 2025, Mbappé was in all the good moves against Las Palmas. After half an hour, his heavy strike led to Real's second goal from Diaz (2-1, 33rd), the French signing a double three minutes later upon receiving a new gift from Rodrygo (3-1 , 33rd). Often close to the hat-trick, with a disallowed goal (43rd) and three lost duels with Cillessen (8th, 28th, 45th+2), the ex-Monegasque was also at the start of his team's last goal in the second half.

Found by his attacker on the wing, Garcia was able to serve Rodrygo on a plate, the Brazilian scoring from close range to reward a successful overall performance on the offensive front (4-1, 57th). Deprived of two other goals, logically refused to Bellingham (74th) and Valverde (86th), Real Madrid was therefore “content” with this 4-1 success, which places it alone at the top of the championship with two points ahead of Atlético (2nd). Barça (3rd) is seven lengths behind. A perfect weekend, in short, before the return of the Champions League and the duel with Salzburg on Wednesday.
