On Wednesday, KRC Genk lost 2-1 to Club Brugge in the cup. Afterwards there was a lot of fuss about the penalty kick from which Club was able to score the winning goal.
KRC Genk still has a difficult assignment ahead of it at the beginning of February. The Limburgers have to make up for a 2-1 defeat at home to advance to the cup final.
After the loss to Jan Breydel, Genk was particularly displeased with the light penalty that was given. With a 1-1 score, the ball hit the spot.
This after Mujaid Sadick hit Club Brugge striker Jutgla very lightly in the penalty area. The Spaniard went down, the penalty was given and converted.
Marc Degryse is especially strict on Sadick: he thinks it is a clear penalty that should not be discussed. Yet that happened.
“This is just not smart of Sadick,” he said on VTM2. “Jutglà’s control is not good. He can’t get away anymore and should score from an impossible angle.”
“And yet Sadick commits that violation. Why does he initiate that tackle? Just because the ball threatens to roll over the back line does not mean that it cannot be a violation. There can actually be no discussion about this,” Degryse concludes.
