Islam Slimani is once again back in Belgium. The Algerian player signs for six months at Westerlo on loan.
It was in the air, but it is now official: Islam Slimani is returning to Belgium, just six months after leaving it. Following his last visit to Mechelen, it is now at KVC Westerlo that the Algerian striker has decided to settle.
The 35-year-old seems to have developed an attachment to the Plat Pays, which he discovered in 2023 during his time at Anderlecht. After a six-month stay with the Mauves, he joined the Brazilian club Coritiba FC, where he also stayed for six months. On February 1, 2024, he returned to Belgium by signing for Mechelen. But his adventure with the Belgian club was short-lived, as he then decided to return to his former Algerian club, CR Belouizdad, in September 2024.
The top scorer of the Algerian national team now joins the Campinois. Slimani signed a six-month loan deal. The former OL player will wear number 19.
It is therefore not a definitive transfer that has been concluded. This could be explained in particular by family reasons. Since the start of the season, the Algerian has disappointed. He has in fact played 12 matches in all competitions for only three small goals. The striker therefore hopes to show another face by making another return to Belgium.
