“We loved him and I loved him,” François Bayrou wrote on the X network, about the former regional president Anne-Marie Comparini who was one of his followers.
Joined Sunday by Progressthe Prime Minister was keen to recall the “quasi-filial” relationship she had with Raymond Barre, of whom she was a parliamentary assistant, “a relationship which has never wavered”.

François Bayrou also pays tribute to the position of Anne-Marie Comparini during what he describes as an “incredible event” in 1998: “This attempt at compromise with the National Front to which she had said no with our entire team, refusing to allow oneself to be drawn into this denial, then taking charge of the Region in the climate of the time.”
Then, “beaten by Jean-Jack Queyranne, she nonetheless remained passionately attentive to her region and local issues, without ever moving away from me,” recalls the president of the democratic movement.
“She was a courageous woman. For me, this courage will forever mark her memory,” confides François Bayrou, who salutes “the human qualities” of Anne-Marie Comparini. “Including her aspects of fragility which made her particularly sensitive, and which I really liked about her.”
