The departments of Loire and Rhône have been placed on orange alert for Sunday January 5, from 8 p.m., due to a “violent gale” linked to a disturbance on the Atlantic coast, Météo-France announced. From midnight, 21 departments, mainly from Vendée to Ardennes, will be on orange alert for wind.
Vendée, Maine-et-Loire, Indre-et-Loire, Sarthe, Loir-et-Cher, Loiret, Eure-et-Loire, Yvelines, Essonne, Val-d 'Oise, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Hauts-de-Seine, Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Aisne, Marne, the Meuse and the Ardennes will thus join the Loire and the Rhône.
“With the approach of a disturbance on the Atlantic coasts, the wind will strengthen over the country during the day on Sunday”explained the forecaster in his bulletin. “The southerly wind will become particularly strong from Sunday evening to Monday early afternoon in the Rhône-Alpes region, particularly in the south [des deux départements] »he estimated.
A disturbance associated with a marked deepening will cross the country on Monday, while strong winds will be monitored on a Poitou-Moselle axis during the day, meteorologists said.
This type of gale occurs on average once or twice a year, but it remains “less strong” than storm Bert, which broke out at the end of November.
