From qualifying to the quarter-finals without going through the first round… Benjamin Bonzi has a good shot to make this week at the Adelaide tournament (ATP 250), in Australia, which precedes the first major meeting of the year, the Major which kicks off the season in Melbourne (January 12-26). This Wednesday, the 28-year-old from Marseillais will face the Australian Li Tu in the 2nd round (equivalent to the round of 16 in this tournament category).

After winning his two qualifying matches, Bonzi logically had to play a first round for his entry into the final draw in Adelaide. But several forfeits redistributed the cards and the Gardois native recovered the “positioning” of Jiri Lehecka, seed number 4, in the table. In “250”, the four main seeds benefit from a “bye”, that is to say they are exempt from the first round and enter directly into the tournament in the next round.

A few days ago, to launch his 2025 season, Bonzi had already managed to get out of the qualifiers on the Brisbane side (ATP 250), then to win his first round, before losing his flag in the round of 16 against the Chilean Nicolas Jarry.

From January 12, the players (and players for the women's tournament) will meet in Melbourne for the Australian Open. The draw for the different tables will be carried out during the night from Wednesday to Thursday (around 4:30 a.m. in ). Bonzi, 70th in the world and, therefore, directly qualified for the main draw, and the French will then be determined on their entry into the running.

Will Arlesian Clément Chidekh, involved in the qualifications being played this week, be there? He has a first meeting to negotiate, this Wednesday, against the Swiss Jérôme Kym.
