Météo-France places the Loire and the Rhône on orange alert due to a “violent gale”

The departments of and Rhône were placed on orange vigilance from 8 p.m. due to a “violent gale” linked to a disturbance on the Atlantic coast, Météo- announced on Sunday January 5.

“With the approach of a disturbance on the Atlantic coasts, the wind will strengthen over the country during the day on Sunday”explained the forecaster in his latest bulletin. “The southerly wind will become particularly strong from Sunday evening to Monday early afternoon in the Rhône-Alpes region, particularly in the south [des deux départements] »he estimated.

A disturbance associated with a marked deepening will cross the country on Monday, while strong winds will be monitored on a Poitou- axis during the day, meteorologists said. The alert will remain in effect for Monday, according to Météo-France.

This type of gale occurs on average once or twice a year, but it remains “less strong” than storm Bert, which broke out at the end of November.
