At the call of Rural Coordination, dozens of farmers are converging this Sunday, January 5 towards Paris and its surroundings. Their president, Véronique Le Floc'h, confirmed on RMC their intention to “encircle” the capital.
“Agriculture is dying. Nobody sees clearly, that doesn’t alert anyone in government”lamented Véronique Le Floc'h on RMC this morning, Sunday January 5.
According to the president of Rural Coordination, farmers feel abandoned in the face of the growing difficulties in their sector. She also denounces imported products which, according to her, “do not meet our standards”while occupying an important place on French plates.
Through this movement, Rural Coordination is calling for concrete actions, in particular an alignment of French regulations with those of the European Union to ensure fair competition. More generally, Véronique Le Floc'h expresses general fed up, “Leave us alone and let us work.”
Actions planned despite the bans and actions that could last
Despite prefectural bans to limit undeclared gatherings, farmers intend to maintain their actions. “Everything will go as planned”affirmed the president, specifying that the objective is to“surround Paris”. The blockages could concern strategic places such as the Saint-Arnoult tollbooth.
Agricultural unions are due to meet Prime Minister François Bayrou on January 13, but this date is considered far too late by Rural Coordination. “Waiting one more week is not possible”declared Véronique Le Floc’h. “We are accumulating and chaining together all the crises since Covid-19.”
The union also criticizes the amount of aid announced by the government for 2024, i.e. 270 million euros, considered largely insufficient. As long as concrete answers are not provided, the mobilization could last several days.
