The New Year's Eve evening was festive for a majority of Côte d'Azur residents. Others chose to sow chaos, like every year.
Clashes with the police were reported in the Ariane district of Nice, with numerous mortar shots, vehicle fires and trash cans, particularly at the corner of Amédée VII Comte Rouge and Guiglionda streets in Sainte-Agathe. Eight people, five adults and three minors, were taken into custody.
They were arrested for “violence against persons holding public authority”in this case national and municipal police officers, but also for “fire damage”.
A police officer was slightly injured at Ariane by mortar fire. According to the public prosecutor of Nice, 13 vehicles were burned in Nice.
“Attempted homicide” in Isola 2000, the perpetrator on the run
A tragedy also occurred on this New Year's Eve evening, at Isola 2000.
Three people were injured by knivesin what the Nice public prosecutor described as “tentative d’homicide”. The perpetrator is on the run.
Moreover, in Cannesaround 1 a.m. that same night, two men aged around 35 were taken in by emergency services.
Knife woundsthey were transported to Pasteur 2 (Nice) and Simone-Veil (Cannes).
