The 2025 ATP Tour is properly kicking off on Sunday with one main draw men’s singles match at the Brisbane International. But before David Goffin and Aleksandar Vukic take the court, we’ll also get to see some fascinating matchups in the final round of qualifying. Who do you think will come out on top?
ATP Brisbane Day 1 Predictions
Yannick Hanfmann vs Richard Gasquet
Head-to-head: First meeting
Richard Gasquet will be wrapping up his career at Roland Garros this year, but maybe he still has a few decent events left in him. Derek Pham wasn’t too much of a test in the opening round of qualifying and now he’s due to face Yannick Hanfmann. That seems considerably tougher, but the German isn’t known for his hard-court prowess. Gasquet started a few seasons well even in the latter stages of his career, this might be another one.
Prediction: Gasquet in 3
Lucas Pouille vs Nishesh Basavareddy
Head-to-head: First meeting
This is sort of Nishesh Basavareddy’s first ATP Tour event, depending how you count US Open qualifying and NextGen Finals. Borna Gojo was a very tough opponent for him in the opening round with the American somehow getting over the line. Even someone like Lucas Pouille will allow him to have a bit more fun with his aggressive returns. That said, this isn’t going to be easy. Last year was perhaps the first time since 2019 that Pouille played a relatively full season. But maybe that long match with Jason Kubler yesterday comes back to bite him.
Prediction: Basavareddy in 3

Benjamin Bonzi vs Adrian Andreev
Head-to-head: 1-1
It’s easy to forget that because of the new season coming up, but Benjamin Bonzi is on an incredible run. He went 14-1 in three weeks on the Challenger Tour in October before winning his maiden ATP Tour title in Metz. That leaves him so much space to improve his ranking in the first half of this year as he was slumping hard 12 months ago. He lost to Adrian Andreev in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve last January, but seems much stronger than him at the moment.
Prediction: Bonzi in 2
David Goffin vs Aleksandar Vukic
Head-to-head: First meeting
This is the only main draw match scheduled for Sunday. David Goffin had that resurgent season last year and while he won’t return to the top, he’s still capable of putting in some strong performances. Tough to say how much of that will still be left after the off-season break, but Aleksandar Vukic was also firing up in the last few months of 2024. This looks pretty open with Goffin maybe having the slightest of edges as the smoother player with more precise timing. But Vukic will be hungry for that home soil win as well.
Prediction: Goffin in 3
