Livret A, LDDS, LEP, PEL… when will the interest on your savings be paid, and at what rate?

Livret A, LDDS, LEP, PEL… when will the interest on your savings be paid, and at what rate?

After a hectic month of December in terms of expenses, the payment of bank interest is still eagerly awaited by savers. By exceeding 17 billion euros just for Livrets A and LDDS, and reaching 20 billion by adding LEPs, according to data published by the Caisse des Dépôts, they should break records this year. There are only a few more days to wait to find out their exact amount.

Interest on traditional savings accounts, calculated twice a month, every fortnight, is only paid once a year. The banks make the payment during the night of December 31 to January 1, an operation which generally appears on the credited account shortly after this date.

How much does bank interest earn?

The amount of bank interest depends on the type of savings product, the interest rate applied and the capital invested. Thus, for 22,950 euros placed in a Livret A throughout the year, without touching it, the interest paid will amount to 688.50 euros on December 31.

The average is however lower, since savers invest around 7,077 euros on average in their Livret A. With a rate of 3%, this investment brings them 212 euros at the end of the year.

Bank interest is higher for money placed in a LEP (Popular Savings Account), reserved for the most modest incomes, and whose rate is 4%, with 263 euros on average.

Concerning the PEL (housing savings plan), its remuneration rate is fixed when it is opened and does not change thereafter. But be careful, because unlike the Livret A, the LEP and the LDDS, its rate is gross and it is subject to tax.

A drop in interest rates in 2025

The remuneration of Livrets could mechanically fall in 2025. Firstly because of the slowdown in inflation, to which it is closely linked, but also because high rates over a prolonged period slow down investment and consumption.

The Livret A rate, also valid for the LDDS, depending on the rise in prices and interbank rates, should thus reach 2.5% instead of 3% on February 1, 2025, and that of the LEP go from 4 to 3%. approximately.
