Mohamed Salah upset some of his fans by posting a message to celebrate Christmas this Wednesday. A publication which does not go down well with certain Muslim Internet users but which delights supporters of other Premier League clubs by imagining a curse against the Liverpool winger.
An Egyptian international and practicing Muslim, Mohamed Salah has nevertheless attracted the wrath of certain believers for several years. This Wednesday, and as he has become accustomed to doing since 2019, the Liverpool star posted a photo of a tree on his social networks wishing Merry Christmas to his subscribers. But the photo, now traditional and kitsch as can be, of the Salah family posing in front of the tree and in matching pajamas is having a hard time going over with some fans.
Simple criticism…
Accompanied by his wife and their two daughters, Mohamed Salah enjoys a brief moment of respite before embarking on the very rich Boxing Day period in the Premier League. A break however spoiled by the attacks against the 32-year-old winger.
“The fall begins”, says an Internet user in response to the publication of the ‘Pharaoh of Anfield’ before seeing another subscriber follow up with a “why did you post that, why” on Instagram.
Another fan of the Egyptian also sent a polite message to express his disappointment after the photo of the Salahs in front of a Christmas tree: “No post on Gaza but first to post at Christmas, we got you lost”.
….Has a Christmas curse
So far nothing too bad except the regrets of certain Muslims at the idea of seeing the favorite of Reds supporters mentioned at Christmas. But other Internet users were much more virulent against Mohamed Salah.
Between those who have multiplied emoticons of all kinds to signify their disapproval (vomiting, broken heart, etc.) against the one who has lived in the north of England since 2017. To the point of promising him a real curse.
“Mark my words, you will not score any goals by the end of the season, for having lacked respect towards our beloved prophet and towards the entire Muslim community”, cursed a (ex) fan of Mo’ Salah.
Another Internet user, an Arsenal fan, recalled the winger’s family “tradition” but did not forget the “Christmas curse of Mo Salah” which could help Liverpool’s rivals to catch up with Arne’s team Slot in the ranking.
Salah not really impacted
A curse which does not really seem to bother the Liverpool striker, the first player in the history of the Premier League to reach the mark of ten goals and ten assists before Boxing Day.
As his supporters have already recalled, despite this so-called curse against him after his publications at Christmas, Mohamed Salah continued to pile up goals and brilliant actions. It’s simple, since his arrival at the Reds, the Egyptian has only lost once during the day after Christmas, on December 28, 2021… against Leicester who Liverpool face this Thursday.
