In the middle of the holiday season, the flu is gaining ground in France.
Initially relatively strong in Île-de-France, the influenza epidemic recorded strong progression in France over “all regions”alerted Public Health France this Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Children under 15 most affected in the city
In a latest bulletin published this Thursday, Public Health France pointed out a “strong increase in all flu indicators in town and in hospitals in all age groups”. “All regions” of France are affected by the epidemic”who has “significantly progressed” over the last seven days, underlines the national public health agency.
“Children under 15 were the most affected in town and in hospital, but a marked increase in visits to emergency rooms and hospitalizations among people aged 65 and over was observed”specifies Public Health France.
Elderly people, “particularly vulnerable”
In recent days, the number of flu-related deaths has increased significantly. “All of these indicators reveal a circulation of influenza viruses which is intensifying within the general population and which particularly affects older people, who are particularly vulnerable to influenza”continued the health authorities. However, “compared to the five previous epidemics, the level of activity was moderate for all ages”recalls Public Health France.
To protect against the flu, vaccination remains the most effective tool, recalled the pharmacy unions which point to an acceleration of vaccination, after a dismal campaign during the fall.
