MEDIAS – « A symbol of courage and resilience.” As the Mazan rape trial ends with defense pleadings, the main victim, Gisèle Pelicot, was named by the BBC among the 100 most influential women of 2024 on Tuesday, December 3. Her extraordinary trial highlighted the issue of sexual violence as she refused to hold the trial in camera and requested the broadcast of images and videos of her rapes in front of the public and journalists.
Our ranking “recognizes the toll this year has taken on women by celebrating those who, through their resilience, are pushing for change, as the world changes around them”indicated the BBC. The British media has named 100 women who have had an impact on our societies in 2024, of those who have been “facing deadly conflicts and humanitarian crises in Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine and Sudan”to those who “had to dig deep within themselves and find new levels of resilience”.
