It was quite predictable. After the match, Wouter Vrancken, beside himself, strongly criticized the refereeing during the Anderlecht-La Gantoise match. Vrancken’s monologue was clear and referee Lothar D’Hondt took it for granted.
“I would like to start with the first 40 minutes which were good. We had everything under control. The only thing missing was finding free spaces. After that unfortunate goal, we said to ourselves on the bench: ‘if it continues like this , we can adjust at halftime Everything will be fine here,’” began. Wouter Vrancken at a press conference.
The second yellow card received by To Jordan Torunari just before half-time was clearly a turning point in this meeting. “It actually started with this action in the 38th minute in this duel between Colin Coosemans and Max (Dean). If anyone was going to come out with a red, it was Coosemans. Okay, maybe Zanka was still in the corner which could justify the yellow, but isn’t that a fault?” asked Vrancken.
“But the second? Torunarigha simply pushed the ball and received a second yellow for that. Nowadays you can chat with the referee 20 minutes after the match. I went to him with my laptop and showed him this action.”
He claims not to have seen it? How can you give a yellow card for something you didn’t see?
“He claims not to have seen it, but he still gives a second yellow for something he didn’t see? And then he says to me ‘if you ignore the image where the player touches the ball ‘. Um, but that’s what it’s all about huh? I asked him if he thought it was a mistake or not and then he said he still had to analyze the footage.”
“And regarding that action with Colin, he said it was too light. It clearly unbalances Max. It’s simple: it’s always a foul. It could have been an enjoyable match, but it was absurd. And I can’t blame my players for anything, it was just the referee!”, the La Gantoise coach then clearly declared.
“(During my meeting with the referees) I said again that everything was going well this season. That there was less discussion and that I was less frustrated with the referees. And then you have a match like that … Next time, I won’t even register again, I would have done better to work three or four hours with my team instead of being in Tubize for that”, Vrancken then sounded, in a dry tone.
