In Verdelais (Gironde), a breath of fresh air is blowing through activities for children: since September, the Carlo Acutis du Langonnais patronage has welcomed young people aged 6 to 14 for moments of play, learning and sharing. Meeting with Raïssa Duvignac, treasurer of this whole new associationwho speaks enthusiastically about this value-laden project.
A place designed for children and families
The patronage aims to be much more than a simple leisure center. It embodies a global vision ofchild developmentt. “We wanted to create a place where children can grow fully, in their bodies, their hearts and their minds,” explains Raïssa.
This comprehensive approach results in fun activities that transmit “messages of life, an intergenerational family spirit and empowerment of young people: the elders supervise the younger ones, and each child is entrusted a mission for the day. Here, we wash the dishes, we sweep, we set the table, just like at home! Everyone pitches in, depending on their abilities and age! »
Sponsorship also responds to a concrete need of parents, by offering adapted and accessible support. “We want to offer a real service to families, while revealing the talents of each child,” she adds. However, the director is very keen on the diplomas necessary for supervision and the CAF supports the management in this dynamic.
Rich and varied activities
The Carlo Acutis patronage welcomes children on Wednesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and offers a school support Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. During the holidays, young people enjoy thematic activities, such as those organized during All Saints' Day: escape games, crafts and even an immersion in the world of Merlin the Enchanter.
On Wednesdays, homework help in small groups is offered, there are also quiet times, gardening, scrapbooking, cooking activities, etc. and of course, free time. An important place is also given to singing.
The next vacation sessions are already planned:
- From March 3 to 7, 2025 for the winter holidays.
- April 24 to 25 and April 28 to 30 for spring break.
Four weeks during the summer, including three in July and one in August.
Accessibility and solidarity
To guarantee accessibility for all, prices are calculated according to the family quotient, varying from €5 to €10 per day for Wednesdays (annual registration) and from €7 to €21 per day during the holidays (daily registration) .
This operation also relies on a network of dedicated volunteers. The director, a former teacher, is supported by an intergenerational team chosen for their specific talents. “But we are always looking for new goodwill,” specifies Raïssa.
Who is Carlo Acutis?
For the record, Carlo Acutis was a young Italian, sometimes nicknamed the “cyber-apostle of the Eucharist”. He was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2020. Carlo, who died at the age of 15 from leukemia, is recognized for his deep faith, his love for the Eucharist, and his talent for using technology to share its spiritual message. Firmly anchored in his time, Carlo is buried in Assisi and his tomb is today a place of pilgrimage.
For the moment, the premises have been found in Verdelais. The setting, rented from the parish, is sumptuous. The children are frolicking in the old garden of the Célestins monasteryand if the study room overlooks the apse of the church, the activity room is nestled one level lower, in a green setting, overlooking the Galouchey.
Towards an even more accessible future
Another project is emerging on the horizon: the installation of patronage in the center of Langon, to make it more accessible to families throughout the region.
By offering a space where friendship, creativity and learning mingle, the Carlo Acutis patronage is already establishing itself as a key player in the development of young people and the support of parents. Would you like to know more or join the adventure as a volunteer? Please note that you will not be asked to commit for an entire day but rather in increments of 2 hours.
This allows people not to be mobilized all day, and it benefits children who meet many very different people, perfect for opening up and creating rich and varied connections. Contact the team now and help bring this unique place to life for children and families.
