Less than a week after the author of the death threats made against the principal of the Parisian high school Maurice Ravel was sentenced to a fine of 600 euros and a citizenship course, the Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet announced the deployment of police protection devices for teaching staff if necessary.
Better protect the teaching staff. The Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet, unveiled this Sunday, November 24, in an interview with JDD, new measures aimed at protecting teachers and principals of educational establishments in the event of threat, aggression or attack.
“Our teachers and school leaders deserve the support of the entire nation,” recalled the minister. “From now on, they benefit from systematic functional protection which guarantees them legal and material assistance and, as soon as it is necessary, they can benefit from police protection,” added Anne Genetet.
Measures to “restore authority at school”
In detail, in addition to police protection, mobile teams will be able to intervene to guarantee the security and protection of educational establishments.
A teacher challenged in his teaching of secularism can call on a trained academic advisor to advise him, support him and, if necessary, attend his classes to support him in his missions.
To “reestablish authority at school”, Anne Genetet “works with the educational community and researchers, to propose an adapted action plan”. “This project also includes a reflection on school offenses: their definition, the appropriate sanctions, and the monitoring of students in the event of permanent exclusion, in order to avoid their marginalization,” she concluded.
