World no.2 Alexander Zverev has continued his winning form with a solid 6-4 6-4 triumph against Andrey Rublev in his opening ATP Finals match.
The German, who won his second Masters 1000 title of 2024 last week, snared breaks of serve late in both sets to overcome the enigmatic Russian.
Zverev has positioned himself to be a favourite to reach the semi-finals after Carlos Alcaraz’s shock loss to Casper Ruud.

It was a tight first set with only two points dropped on serve between both combatants across the opening six games.
However, a loose game from Rublev, with two unforced errors, helped gift Zverev a break in the seventh game.
The German then comfortably served out the first set 6-4 to assert his authority on the match.

The second set was a similar story with Rublev playing solid tennis but ultimately losing concentration for a couple of points.
This saw Zverev snare the break in the ninth game and serve the match out in the next game.
Both players have round-robin matches to come against Alcaraz and Ruud in their ATP Finals campaigns.
