The initial situation:
The 15th matchday is of great importance for both FC St.Gallen and Yverdon Sport.
For the FCSG (7th place) it’s about staying in touch with the top half of the table. After an important 2-1 away win against weak Grasshoppers, it’s all about the next mandatory points. Enrico Maassen’s team appears strengthened after the success, after unnecessarily dropping points in previous draws against beatable opponents. For more peace and security within the club, a win in front of a home crowd would be desirable.
For Yverdon-Sport (10th place) the opponent is not inconvenient. In the first leg, the Vaudois were able to beat the Eastern Swiss team with a 1-0 win in their home Stade Municipal. The last three defeats, however, have increased the gap to the top half of the table. Regardless, a point win would help to keep the gap to Winterthur to more than one win and thus continue to stay away from the bottom of the table. However, Alessandro Mangiarratti’s team has to make up for a red card suspension due to a serious foul by regular Anthony Sauthier in the 4-1 defeat against FC Basel. The weakened defense in combination with the already harmless offense (only Winterthur has 15 goals and the Grasshoppers have fewer) will make the away trip a tough job.
Conclusion:
FC St.Gallen will play as favorites in front of their home crowd. Will the Eastern Swiss manage to build a win streak or will defiant Vaudois wrest more points from them?
