Luís Neto is back at Sporting and will be João Pereira’s assistant. The arrival of the central defender, champion with the Lions, was an express request from the new coach of the green and whites, as was revealed during the presentation, in the VIP Hall of the José Alvalade Stadium.
“I was the one who asked the President and Viana, because of the experience he has and because he is an element in which I place a lot of trust. He will play a fundamental role in the day-to-day running of the club. It can help in many fields, brings another experience and will be very important for the future of Sporting“, assured João Pereira.
As for a possible ‘heavy inheritance’, the coach assured that “If I had doubts and if I thought it would go wrong, I wouldn’t be here, I would be at home with my children. That doesn’t cross my mind, there are a lot of games left, but we have to be positive and I’m confident that things will work out.”
Right now, Sporting is the isolated leader of the Liga Portugal Betclicwith 33 points in eleven rounds played, and they are in the fight to win their second championship. Second place is occupied by Porto, which has 27 points. In third place is Benfica with 25 (one game less).
João Pereira’s first test in the technical command of the lions is scheduled for Friday, November 22nd, against Amarantein a game relating to the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup. The match against the team that competes in League 3 will be played at 20h45, in Alvalade.
