After the arduous but well-deserved 1-0 win against Benfica Lisbon, the Munich team can continue to hope for direct qualification for the round of 16 in the new league format of the premier football league. But the top 8 is still a long way away for now.

The pioneer of this important success was Leroy Sané. The national player came into the game after 56 minutes for the ineffective Michael Olise and immediately livened up the offensive game in front of national coach Julian Nagelsmann with his dribbling, crosses and his move towards the goal.

A medical emergency

The game on Wednesday evening was overshadowed by a medical incident in the stands, which is why there was largely fan silence in the sold-out Allianz Arena. The Bayern fans in the south curve stopped their loud support. The emergency doctor was deployed in second place near the south curve.

Numerous rescue workers attended to the emergency in the stands. Stewards held up a tarpaulin to protect the person from view of other onlookers. According to initial unconfirmed information, the person was resuscitated. After about half an hour of play, she was taken away.

Inter beats Arsenal

Inter Milan remains unbeaten and without conceding a goal in the new league phase of the Champions League. Italy’s football champions won 1-0 against Arsenal on Wednesday with ÖFB striker Marko Arnautovic on the bench. FC Barcelona celebrated a clear 5-2 win at Red Star Belgrade. Atletico Madrid won 2-1 at Saint-Germain.

Inter remained undefeated for the ninth competitive game in a row. The golden goal resulted from a controversial penalty that Hakan Calhanoglu scored shortly before half-time (45th + 3). Arsenal’s Mikel Merino had the ball bounced to his hand from close range. The penalty was Inter’s first shot on goal. It was another setback for Arsenal after their last three league games without a win. England’s runner-up remains in the premier class with seven points and just three goals.

In Paris, Nahuel Molina (18th) equalized the lead early on through PSG young star Warren Zaire-Emery (14th). Angel Correa secured the away win with the last attack (93′). Things are getting tight for PSG after only four points from four rounds. At least the top 8, which make it directly to the CL round of 16, seem to be a long way off at the halfway point of the league phase.

Ademola Lookman (51′) and Nicolo Zaniolo (88′) scored Atalanta Bergamo to a 2-0 win at VfB Stuttgart. The Europa League winner, like Inter, is still unbeaten in the premier class and has not conceded a goal – and has also been undefeated in nine competitive games. Barcelona have so far been the goal factory in the premier class with 15 goals in four games. In Belgrade, Robert Lewandowski set the tone for victory with a brace (43rd, 53rd). Inigo Martinez (13th), Raphinha (55th) and Fermin Lopez (76th) were successful for the Catalans.
